A delightful iconic vintage pair of 1940s Crown TRIFARI Sterling Silver earrings in the ridiculously beautiful Talisman Design. The Talisman design is a much sought after Trifari design by perhaps the best and most loved designer at Trifari across the many decades; the infamous Alfred Philippe. The set dates to 1947-1948 with the patent registered in 1948 and are found in a 1947 Harper's Bazaar advertisement. In 1930 Trifari hired Alfred Philippe as head designer. Philippe's background was in designing high end fine jewellery for the likes of Cartier and Van Cleef and Arpels and so he introduced a wonderful sense of luxury and style to the company. Indeed his designs led to Trifari costume jewellery pieces resembling cleverly and convincingly fine jewels which in turn led to the immense popularity of Trifari jewels during this period. These earrings are a great example of the much admired and documented Alfred Philippe designs and his work as Head Designer for Trifari. Popular opinion is that when Philippe joined Trifari, that is when the company really took off. These beautiful earrings have a feature glass moonstone cabochon with red, green, and clear rhinestones in a variety of shapes and cuts. The earrings are made from solid sterling silver with a gold wash (gold vermeil) in places to accentuate the design. The earrings are clips and are brought to you in very good vintage condition. They are clearly marked Crown Trifari Pat Pending and Sterling as expected. The earrings measures approx. 3cm by 2cm. Grab yourself a very special piece of Trifari history and indeed one from one of the top designers of the entire costume jewellery movement during the mid-Century. These are an incredible find and will be much admired due to their style, uniqueness and workmanship. They would work well with neutrals and also to pick up a colour in an outfit or accessory.
