The Resort-Wear Trends to Know for 2023

We’re giving you the low-down on this year's hottest resort trends so you can be prepared – and best dressed – on every trip.

We know about the spring/summer and autumn/winter collections, but fashion always likes to throw a curveball. And this time it’s in the form of pre-season or resort collections, also referred to as cruise. These are the territory of the three major European fashion houses Chanel, Dior and Louis Vuitton, owing to the huge demand for their designs. Initially, cruise collections were to feed the fashion hunger pangs of wealthy consumers who constantly travelled through the year and needed new wardrobes for new climates – it’s even said that Gabrielle Chanel began her cruise designs in 1919 when she realised her wealthy clients would take a yacht to the Mediterranean during the winter months to escape the cold.

Despite the terms cruise and resort hinting at beach-inspired fashion, today’s resort collections offer much more versatility. We find transitional looks which can be styled to suit a range of climates, while also satisfying the global clientele who are lucky enough to have year-round sun.

All-White Everything

White is the colour of summer. With Sofia Richie Grainge’s instantly iconic wedding to the colour appearing everywhere at the 2023 met ball, white is here to stay. Whether worn as a bag or in an array of pearls and white gold jewellery, its bright clean look is the perfect complement to a sunkissed tan and wardrobe.

Rush to Ruching

Ruching is a timeless design technique and one which seamlessly blends into different seasons. It’s a manipulation of fabric which creates an effortlessly casual look and a flattering silhouette for all body types. A staple design in Miu Miu accessories, ruching allows for a bolder shape and gorgeous texture in accessories, making it perfect to add depth to the simplest holiday ensemble.

Pops of Pink

Pierpaolo Piccioli started the Barbie-core trend with ‘Valentino Pink’, which soon spread like fire through luxury brands. And it’s not done yet. Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated Barbie film is coming out in July, just as we all begin to jet off, and pink is fast becoming the influencers favourite hue. Bring the trend into your own wardrobe with pops of pink in the form of the perfect vintage accessory.

Ocean Pearl

Coming from the sea, pearls are the perfect gem to stave off the holiday blues. A complete juxtaposition to modern materials, pearls represent a different time period, with a different aesthetic for women. They epitomise a sophisticated elegance, and make the perfect addition to every Summer outfit.

Precious Cargo

Cargo is here to stay. Defined by the presence of pockets and an undone structure, the Y2K trend has brought about a resurgence of slouchy pieces.  For resort 2023, cargo got a complete makeover, and can now even be seen in the brand new Fendi multi-pocket baguette, released to celebrate 25 years of the iconic bag.
