More than just a stylish acquisition, a vintage Chanel bag is for many, a savvy investment too. As part of our OFV care guide series, we share our insider expertise on how to take the best care of your bag to ensure longevity and minimal damage.
AVOID SUNSHINE + MOISTURE
For both leather and embroidery or fabric bags, it is important to keep your bag out of direct sunlight and moisture exposure for a prolonged period of time. This can cause the colours to fade.
If you do find your bag has an encounter with water, the best thing to do is to carefully dry it off using a non-pilling cloth.
CLEAN REGULARLY
In order to maintain a good condition, it is advised to clean your vintage Chanel bag regularly. To reduce the appearance of marks on leather or fabric styles, use a soft cloth and rub in a circular motion.
If you chose to use a leather protector, ensure that you use a handbag protector, not shoe protector. Avoid solvent protectors and any that have wax or oil ingredients.
USE YOUR DUSTBAG
Keeping your vintage Chanel bag in its original packaging, including the dust bag and protective papers/plastics, will prevent any damage while your bag isn’t being worn.
PROTECT YOUR LINING
Ensure that any liquids, including make up and perfume, are kept in a sealed vanity bag to avoid leaks and marking of the internal lining. Should marks occur, use a damp soft cloth and gently rub in a circular motion.
