In order to make the most out of your vintage jewellery, whether it's for future wear or potential re-sell opportunities, Open for Vintage have compiled a guide on how to take the best care of your collection.
What to do:
1) Get your jewellery cleaned professionally. Harsh chemicals in modern cleaning products can damage your jewellery. If you do seek an at home option, a damp lint-free cloth will remove dust and dirt.
2) Store your jewellery in a box. This will protect it from getting bent or scratched, and help to protect it from natural sunlight and dust.
3) Ensure your jewellery fits properly. If your piece is slightly too big or small, seek out a local certified jeweller to fit this for you. This will help to ensure it doesn’t fall off or lose its shape.
What not to do:
1) Don’t allow your jewellery to have contact with harsh chemicals. From cleaning products to daily liquids like moisturiser, perfume and house cleaning products, any contact with your jewellery will encourage tarnishing.
2) Don't store your jewellery in exposed places. In particular, don’t store your jewellery in spaces that are cold, humid, or are exposed to bright sunlight.
