Industry Insider Series: Aida Sane On Her 5 Staple Basics For The Ultimate Vintage Capsule Wardrobe

This month’s Industry Insider is fashion influencer and expert minimal dresser, Aida Sane. Aida, who is the creative behind BasicsTouch, has pulled together her 5 vintage staples to create a capsule wardrobe that promises style season after season.

Buying vintage can be a little bit intimidating, particularly if you are just getting started, but quickly can become your wardrobe’s best friend if you know what to look for. One of my favourite things about vintage is the discovery element – you never know what you’re going to find, however there are 5 basics that my wardrobe lean on more than anything, that you can look for as the start of your vintage staple wardrobe.

  1. A Vintage Blazer: A blazer is actually one of the easiest items to look for when vintage shopping – there are so many and they are usually extremely good value for money considering the quality (I look for 100% wool) If you’re looking for an oversized fit, try browsing the menswear section. This is where I always get the best blazers!

  1. A Vintage Wool Coat: Coats and outerwear in general are one of my favourite pieces to look for when browsing vintage. I love looking for extra long wool coats in neutral colours like black or camel – they are so versatile and I know they would compliment most of my winter wardrobe.
  2. A Vintage Trench Coat: A trench is always a great go-to when vintage shopping, especially since they can be quite expensive when buying brand new. Whether you pick up a beige, black, navy, or grey colourway, I think that the trench is the perfect staple for your wardrobe all year round, and particularly good for in-between season dressing.

4. A Vintage Shirt: A vintage shirt is a great staple because they can elevate any simple outfit, whether it’s with jeans, shorts, skirts or trousers. Like my vintage blazers, I like to have them oversized, and so often browse the men's section for some great discoveries. My favourite colours are white, baby blue and black, as well as styles with stripes as they act as a great staple for more formal looks.

  1. A Vintage Handbag: I can’t make this list without including vintage bags, as they are my number one vintage item (with blazers coming in second place!) What I love about designer vintage bags, is that you can find such unique designs in such amazing condition (thanks to the amazing craftmanship used to make them) at a great price and with a conscious mind. I love that each bag has a history, and you are extending that when purchasing and going on to wear it yourself. To ensure maximum wear, I tend to go for more neutral colours that will act as a staple in my wardrobe from season to season.
