There will always be the temptation to buy into trends, but by building up a handful of timeless accessories, you’ll always have versatile pieces that you can switch up into different looks and tap into different trends of the moment. Trends are often cyclical, so if you do fancy leaning into them it’s very likely you can find what you’re looking for in a vintage piece!
As we all try to be more conscious of our shopping footprint, it’s a great idea to invest in something second-hand that you can give a new life to and keep in circulation for longer. Well-kept designer accessories are perfect for that and there are a few items that I always keep an eye out for. Shopping vintage can be overwhelming, so it’s helpful to have an idea of what you are looking for in mind. Here are my recommended pieces that will never go out of style:
A Party Piece
With events and weddings hopefully back on the agenda soon, we can all get excited about dressing up again. I like to rent dresses for special occasions, and I love having a special bag that can elevate my outfits. Mini bags and retro prints of the 90s era have made a huge comeback in the last year or so and naturally these can be found in abundance on the vintage circuit. I’ve just got a beautiful Dior clutch on Open for Vintage that I cannot wait to whip out.
I’m thinking floor-length silk dress, skimpy black heels and the clutch. There are also gorgeous sparkly or colourful options available on OFV if you’d like something more playful.
The Crossbody
As someone who, in normal times, is usually schlepping bags here, there, and everywhere, a crossbody bag is a must for me for storing easily accessible essentials. Gold Jewellery
Nothing completes a look like some gold jewels. A vintage piece makes it even more special and means you won’t spot it on anyone else. Whether it’s a chunky gold chain or a daintier piece, you can immediately add a wow factor to your outfit. I think brooches are often overlooked as something only your Grandmother would wear, but they’re such fun for upping the ante on an otherwise simple look. I love a monochrome outfit with a show-stopping brooch.
Classic Chanel Bag
Chanel is a brand that will probably sit somewhere on everyone’s luxury wish list. It doesn’t get much more classic than a timeless Chanel handbag. A lot of the most popular Chanel models have been around for years, meaning they’re perfect to buy vintage as there will be plenty available in the vintage market. I love the older, more classic shapes and styles, such as the Classic Flap Bag or the Boy Bag, and I actually prefer these to the newer collections with bolder styles and colourways. Whatever you prefer, they’re still a great investment and an amazing item you can use for years to come – you can’t really go wrong!
