Description

A magnificent antique watch Albert chain in yellow gold from the late Victorian/early Edwardian era. Created from graduated gold curb links, and with an impressive weight of 62.4 gms (2.20 ounces) the chain looks imposing when worn as a necklace or bracelet or indeed, as originally intended, as a watch chain! Each of the solid gold links is stamped 9c or 9ct and they graduate in size from 8.7mm (0.34 inch) wide at the centre of each strand to 5.9mm (0.23 inch) at each end. The chain is fitted with the traditional swivel clip catch at each end which are both in good working order. At the centre point, from three gold links suspends a "T" bar, 1.63 inches wide, so that the "T" bar functions as a drop when worn as a necklace or bracelet rather than its original function of slotting through a waistcoat button hole. The "T" bar is stamped "9.375" for 9 carat gold (this is also stamped on the three gold links) and bears the maker's mark "G.W. Ld" or "C.W. Ld" (the stamp is slightly smudged). As a necklace the Albert chain measures 16 inches long with the "T" bar taking the overall length to 18". - Gold
