Antique Swiss sterling silver pocket watch c.1888 featuring hand painted bright silver detailing and dark red roman numerals set onto a white enamel background. The front and the back of the watch has beautiful elaborate engravings. The watch has a good weight and it is tactile to touch with the smooth glass on the front and the engravings on the body of the piece. Once the watch is wound up it has a lovely ticking noise. To operate the watch, carefully twist the top faceted gold ball situated inside the ring at the top of the piece. By twisting the ball the piece is being wound up, this watch does not need a key to wind it up. This piece is very decorative, it would work very well on a pocket watch chain for a wedding or as a statement necklace. ERA Victorian, 1837-1901 HALLMARKS & MARKINGS 87872, Three Standing Bears (watch & top ring), 0.935 The watch has a number of hallmarks, three bears and 0.935 indicating the piece is set in sterling silver, the three bear hallmark was introduced in 1888. The ring at the top of the watch has two bears and a makers mark. This piece would have been designed to be exported to the UK because of the three bears, this indicated the silver weight was high enough for the British standards. MEASUREMENTS The watch measures 3.6cm / 1.4" (excluding the top ring) in diameter and 0.9cm / 0.3" in thickness. CONDITION The watch is in good antique condition, the glass on the front has a number of scratches only visible close up. Please note with all of our pocket watches we sell them as 'not working' although this one does we can not guarantee its mechanise due to its age. SKU 8050 - Silver
